I hate reflecting on the past year. I tend to think of all the things I could have done differently and forget to think about the good things. In 2008, our dog Max passed right before Christmas, we went through hell and back to buy a house and I worked my rear off trying to get my business back up and running in a new city. I was ready to see 2008 go – bye bye.
However, 2009 was kind of a ho-hum year. So instead of dwelling, I’m going to reflect a bit on the good parts of 2009 to remind me that life is good and can only get better.
In 2009….
- we adopted Hugo in January. And while we discovered that he had cancer in April, he has survived chemo, beat the cancer and is a wonderful dog.
- I hired my indispensable assistant, Whitney McKim, who gets me through the week. She is awesome and a huge asset.
- we met a ton of new friends in our new little town. It takes me a while to connect with folks in a new town, let alone consider them friends. But our town embraced us and made us feel like members of the family.
- I built great, new business relationships based on my new business model of working to help keep small businesses afloat.
- we adopted Mickey in June and found a loving new home for his sister, Joy. Mickey is my little friend and confidant…and I love him dearly.
- Katie and George made it through another year without killing each other. Yea.
- Willy is still Willy…and I wouldn’t have him any other way.
- we adopted Bruno in December and despite my reservations about adding another mastiff to the house, he has turned out to be a great dog. And now we have a happy household of six dogs..and have reached our limit on what we can handle.
- we added three cats to the zoo – Zesty, Tangy and Spicy – who are getting along famously. And I am learning to like cats.
- Mark and I have thoroughly enjoyed our new home, new town and new family. Thanks for putting up with me, sweetie.
As for 2010, I have a few simple resolutions that I hope will help make life easier so I can enjoy it even more:
- Focus, purge and simplify. I have too many “pet projects” in my life. If it ain’t growing…it’s going.
- Spend more time with family. I say this every year and never live up to it. May this be the year to enjoy my family – immediate and extended.
- Understand what’s important to me. This goes along with #1. I think that everything is important and have no sense of priority. This year, I take the time to prioritize.
- Know when to say no. I consistently bite off more than I can chew. This year I will work my own schedule and take off the time that I need to. I will also ask for help when I need it.
- Enjoy life and stress less. ‘Nuff said.
To all my readers, family and friends…have a very happy New Year and I’ll see you in 2010!!
