Dan Cohen, founder of AnimalAttraction.com, just told me about an interesting new campaign called AthletesForAnimals.com. As a huge advocate for educating pet owners and a big time sports fan, I love this effort. The program supports humane education for at-risk and inner city kids – kids that will likely experience dog fighting or animal abuse at some point in their lives. The current pilot program benefits The Washington Humane Society and The Washington Animal Rescue League and already has the support of the Washington Redskin’s Chris Cooley, Clyde Simms from DC United, Shaone Morrisonn from the Washington Capitals and Nakia Sanford from the Washington Mystics.
Sponsored by Petco and Pet-Tabs, the program works like this:
- Sign the pledge – it’s free and takes about a minute.
- Click the confirmation link in the email that arrives right after you sign the pledge.
- $1 per pledge goes toward human education programs at WHS and WARL.
- Once they reach 10,000 pledges, the program will begin expanding nationally, adding new humane education organizations.
Oh, and did I mention that when you sign the pledge you are automatically entered to win prizes like autographed sports memorabilia, gift certificates and more?
If you love animals and want to make a difference by educating folks that dog fighting and abuse is wrong, take 3 minutes today and sign the pledge. It’s quick, it’s easy and it will make you feel good! I did!
