Running a nonprofit, especially for a small grassroots effort, is hard enough. To attempt keeping up with technology, educating yourself on trends and knowing what software or service to purchase seems almost impossible. So any support that NPOs can get at little to no cost is always appreciated. Over the years, I’ve used many services below that have helped me build my own nonprofit as well as support others.
- Grassroots.org - The mission of Grassroots.org is to serve as a catalyst for positive social change by leveraging modern technologies and best business practices. Grassroots.org provides free tools for nonprofits like web hosting, web design & development, SEO consulting, language translation, etc.
- TechSoup.org - TechSoup.org offers nonprofits a one-stop resource for technology needs by providing free information, resources, and support. In addition to online information and resources, we offer a product philanthropy service called TechSoup Stock. Here, nonprofits can access donated and discounted technology products, generously provided by corporate and nonprofit technology partners.
- TechAtlas.org – With TechAtlas you can prepare nonprofits for workshops, training or consulting by inviting them to take assessments, distribute promising practices through customized assessments, provide a repository
to nonprofits for inventory & technology planning information, which you both can share and view aggregated trends in the technology needs of the nonprofits you serve. - NetCorps – offers a variety of technology planning, assistance and support services to nonprofits. Our services are often funded through grants; we also can work with your organization on a fee-for-service basis. One of our top priorities is to work with groups to find funding and in-kind support to build capacity and improve use of technology.
- Network for Good – nonprofit organization that provides easy & affordable online fundraising services to other nonprofits. Services include Custom DonateNow for online donation processing, and EmailNow for email outreach and online surveys.
I also want to give a shout out to NPower, a network of locally based nonprofit organizations that provide comprehensive, high-quality and affordable technology assistance to other nonprofit groups nationally. Founded in 1999, NPower currently serves more than 4,000 organizations each year. I’ve worked with them on a couple of projects and they really do great work.
And please don’t forget NTEN, a membership organization of nonprofit professionals who put technology to use for their causes. NTEN not only provides informative webinars and workshops but is an incredibly friendly and accessible community of NPO technology professionals who live to help each other out. If you haven’t joined do so immediately. It’s cheap and you’ll be glad you did.
