I recently ran across this great post on managing your NPO’s Facebook presence effectively – Five Most Common Mistakes Made by Nonprofit Admins on Facebook from Nonprofit Tech 2.0. This is an area where we struggle at GoodDogz.org and realized that we needed someone who’s sole purpose is to manage Facebook. Here are the five mistakes – check out the post for the solutions.
- Not knowing how to use Apps on Facebook Pages.
- Not understanding the value of community building on Facebook.
- Limiting their Facebook fundraising to Facebook Causes and then leaving their Cause at $0.
- Posting too many Status Updates. (This one makes me nuts and often forces me to “un-fan” orgs.
- Not reserving a Facebook Username for your Page.
These are all excellent examples of what not to do when managing your NPO on Facebook.
For anyone interested, I’ll be interviewing for the Facebook Coordinator position this week!
