I rarely win anything. Occasionally I win a raffle, which requires no ingenuity whatsoever. But this morning I awoke to find that I’d won one of three Envato Birthday Giveaway Bundles! Quite unexpected! And all I had to do was comment on a selected blog post – which was fun. Freelance Switch has hosted other similar contests and I tend to enter them every time.
Here’s why these particular blog contests work:
- They are easy to enter. All you have to do is share a creative comment to a blog post.
- The prizes are geared toward the audience. This contest offered tools for freelancers – all things that I can use. Previous contests had featured business cards and printing services. All helpful to freelancers.
- There is a real chance you might win. You’ll likely never win lotto or Publisher’s Clearing House, but a blog contest? Odds are good that with a good submission, you may win!
Blog contests are cheap to fund, easy to host and drive a decent amount of traffic to your blog. You may even be able to get a prize donated with some promotional consideration. Be sure to watch your blog traffic during your contest to see what works and what doesn’t.

If you haven’t figured it out – this is a heads up. Look for a blog contest here soon!
