I’m dedicating today’s post to my freelancer friends (who are many). There have been a lot of great articles posted through Freelance Switch lately and I wanted to share. Freelance Switch, IMHO, is one – if not the – best resources for freelancers out there. Being a freelancer is a challenging, liberating, unstable business and I think that having a support system is key. Support can come in the form of friends and family or other freelancers. It can come through online forums and blogs. I love to talk to other freelancers as it reminds me that a) I am not alone and b) other freelancers have GREAT ideas. We have to single-handedly deal with missed deadlines, managing our schedules and competing with the big guys. Support in working through these types of issues is key.
Although this isn’t necessarily a freelance article in general , this is by far one of the most comprehensive posts on becoming a web designer that I’ve ever seen. From Smashing Magazine – The Roadmap To Becoming A Professional Freelance Web Designer.
There are also a variety of freelance tool kits available that are helpful to varying degrees.
- 101 Essential Freelancing Resources – Great list of tools. I personally use FreshBooks for my accounting and MailChimp for e-newsletters.
- Freelance Folder – similar to Freelance Switch – job board, forums, resources and more.

I am always happy to share my freelance experiences and tips so ping me if you want to chat!

Excellent. Thank you for this, Beth. I haven’t freelanced in awhile but I’ve thinking about picking up the pen again. This will help me greatly. Thank you.
