I’m starting to find that I simply can’t keep up. I get messages through Facebook, Twitter, SMS text, instant message, email and yes, even voice mail. As a result sometimes things fall through the cracks.
Despite an ongoing discussion that social media is replacing email (some people are even strictly communicating via Twitter),I rely on the fact that I can receive notifications via email from Facebook and Twitter. While I do try to check Twitter and Facebook once or twice a day, I need all of my communications to funnel into one bucket that I can count on.
I get my IM messages through my iPhone as well as my PC, but I don’t think that the nature of IM translates well to email.
And SMS texting is a foreign language to me. If I don’t hear the “tone” of my iPhone when my message comes in, I won’t get it. It seems like my younger friends are all about the texting. I’d rather just send an email.
And if you leave me a voice mail – best of luck. I rarely check it.
How do you keep up with the ever-changing world of communications?
