I have made no secret that I’m in LOVE with LOVESAC. I posted information about our SuperSac a few months ago and wanted to share a little information about the Sactional as well. In one word – AWESOME.
The Sactional gives you the durability of the Sac with the flexibility and style of a sectional. And when I say flexibility, I mean it. The Sactional is really just two pieces – a base and a side. And you can configure them however you want. We bought it because we have a small space where we watch TV and most of the time its just me and my husband. So we didn’t need a huge couch. But when friends and family come over, we need the extra seating.
Our Sactional has four bases and four sides. We typically keep is configured as the Movie Lounger which is essentially a big square with a back and two sides. When my parents came to visit, we reconfigured it as a three person couch with a lounge and it was perfect. The movie lounger can also double as extra sleeping space for guests and is incredibly comfortable.
Reconfiguring is really easy – I did it on my own while my hubby was away. The pieces are held together with a steel clamp that slides into holes within the frame. So you just unclamp the pieces, configure the way you want and clamp it back together.
The covers are really stylish and durable. And for pet owners (or messy people) – they are machine washable. So when two drooly mastiffs muck up a cushion, just throw the cover in the washing machine. Our Jack Russells have little sharp claws and so far, no rips either.
My only complaint is that the base cushions are held on by zelcro so sometimes they slide around. And for some reason ours holds a lot of static in the winter. But all-in-all it was a fantastic piece of furniture for the price. Perfect for us.
We are planning to add one more base to make the could U-shaped so we can put a table in the middle (and we don’t have to sit on top of each other) and our Sactional will be complete. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs practical, flexible seating and
especially to those who have pets.
All hail the Sactional (and Lovesac)!
Do you have a LoveSac or Sactional? Do you love it?

Hello, I am thinking about buying a LoveSac sactional and am wonderin if you have have any additional thoughts about them since your post in January? Thanks.
Well, Roxanne, I have to say that I am still in love with the sactional. So far the covers have help up to quite a beating with mastiffs laying all over it and drooling. The covers have not ripped under the Jack Russells nails either. My husband spilled a beer on it and we easily took it apart, stripped off the covers and washed them. They were easy to wash and dried pretty quickly. I was worried that we might have a problem with the cover fastness, but I’ve washed one cover twice and it still matches the covers that haven’t been washed. We plan to buy another base and side so we can expand the seat into a U-shape for a little more room.
The only two issues that I’ve had are that the stitching has come loose on two of the covers and for some reason it creates a tremendous amount of static electricity during the winter. We plan to call LoveSac about the stitching issue as we were told that they will fix pretty much anything that doesn’t look deliberate. So, I’ll let you know how their customer service responds. I’ve found with a lot of brands, they have a great product and terrible service. So, we’ll see!
I hope that this helps. All-in-all, I would still recommend LoveSac to anyone who is looking for affordable, flexible, attractive seating.
This helps a lot! We recently had renovations done to our basement and have a beautiful family room with HD flat panel TV BUT there are two furnishing challenges. The first is the shape of the room and being able to position furniture in ways to be able to accommodate varying numbers of people. The second is that the doorway to the family room isn’t wide enough to be able to get furniture in and out of the room and I don’t want to try to bring it down the stairway and ding the walls (smile). Right now we have a Comfy Sac (Love Sac competitor) and a plain futon that we had to assemble in the room and these are okay for the teens but these don’t work for my generation (over 50 crowd). We saw sactionals in a store and we able to try them out and they seem perfect for our needs. I will check in later to see how the customer service goes but I think I am definately going to take the plunge. If I have any ideas around the static issue, I will let you know. Thanks so much for your help!
Did you go with one of the stock covers, or do a custom cover? I can’t tell from your pictures which cover you have (Moss MicroSuede?). I’m interested in buying the Sactional, but because I’ve never seen them in person, I have some reservations… mostly in terms of comfort and durability. Although the removable covers are nice, I still need them to hold up, especially with cats (mostly worried about lots of shedding cat hair!). Thanks for your post!
Forgot to ask too, did they respond well when you contacted them about the stitching on the covers?? Thanks!
Hey Kerry -We went with the stock covers because we had guests coming into town and needed the furniture immediately. They are Moss Microsuede. We also got the brown MicroSuede on our SuperSac. I think that the Sactional is incredibly comfortable, especially if you use one of the bases as an ottoman or a chaise lounge. The only issues that I’ve had have been the static electricity and the stitching (that I mentioned previously) and the Velcro on the base cushion tends to not stick that well. So, the cushion tends to move on the ottoman/chaise when you get up. I’ve got 4 dogs, all of which end up on the couch at some point or another and so far it has really stood up to the wear. The Jack Russells have sharp little nails that could easily rip the fabric, but they have not hurt it at all. They also like to knead the cushions like cats – no rips. The mastiffs drool and we just wipe it off with a wet towel or with a little soap if needed. I’ve also washed a couple of the covers – my hubby spilled beer and one of the Jack Russells peed on it – and the covers held their color and shape. All of our dogs shed (both short hairs and globs of hair) and the MicroSuede allows us to easily take the dog hair off with a lint roller – no problems. We haven’t called LoveSac yet about the stitching, so I can’t speak to their customer service, but I’ll let you know once we make the call. Good luck with the Sac and feel free to ping me with additional questions!
Hi – I’m wondering about the comfort level of the couch. Sounds like we have a situation similar to Roxanne’s (above)… but I’m really skeptical about the overall comfort of the couch. I would like to be able to (ideally) have five bases and 6 sides so that we could have a sectional couch configuration that could break-down into 5 chairs. But, in looking at the design, it appears that the “sides” are basically straight up-and-down pieces. That leads me to being concerned about back-support. I’m also concerned about leg support. Our current couch in our movie room has really soft leg support and stiff back support — which ends up leaving a hole in the lower back area and thus very poor back support! Definitely don’t want to purchase another product that has that issue.
So, what is your take/comments about the support of the couch (and have you notice to begin to sag in areas that are frequently sat on?
Also… in terms of your seat cover problem — is slippage just the nature of the beast? Have you found any remedies? Thanks.
Tim
Hey Tim – Yes, the sides are just flat panels, but each base comes with a really large cushion which, at least for us, have been very comfortable. I don’t even notice that the back is just a panel. I work from home, so sometimes I sit on the sactional literally all day with no issues.
We use the sactional as the movie lounger, so each “seat” has an attached ottoman and its very comfortable. When we have reconfigured it for guests – more into a couch configuration – I don’t think its as comfortable. But, I’ve never had a chair without an ottoman so I constantly need somewhere to put my feet. My parents, on the other hand, thought that the couch was very comfortable, so it may just be me.
I haven’t noticed any sagging whatsoever. The slippage of the seat covers continues to bug me, but I just simply keep pushing them back into place. Again, this may just be me.
To date, I stand firm on my love of this piece of furniture and wish that I had bought one a long time ago. We ended up buying a large pet cover for it since the dogs lay on it all the time and I got tired of cleaning it up everyday. But clean up is still a breeze. I’ve spilled beer and tea on it and just popped the covers into the washer – no discoloring and they dried quickly.
If possible, I would recommend that you go to a LoveSac store and sit on one before buying if you are really concerned about the comfort level. But, IMO, the big cushions make the seating pretty darn comfortable.
I hope this helps!
Definitely does — thanks. Just out of curiosity… if you broke your pieces down and created chairs that have only a back (so, the base, plus a side and, of course, the back cushion) and no sides for arms: Do you think this would be comfortable? Our do you think the lack of side arms would be uncomfortable?
Our space restriction doesn’t really allow us to get a traditional couch or movie recliners… so, for the most part a “potential” sactional for us would be an L-shaped couch with ottomans. So, from your description, that would work great. But the point in buying the sactional would be the ability to break the couch apart and create 4 or 5 chairs that would allow for seating for a bunch of friends to come over and watch football, say. Hence, my curiosity about the potential use of these as chairs without arms. It would literally serve a purpose for 3 hours or so once a month. Otherwise it would be left as a family movie lounger.
Wife and I are torn about pursuing the sactional because it isn’t the most striking piece of furniture to look at… and my wife has concerns about durability. But the fact that you say it is really comfortable is a plus… and that you think it is holding up well is another plus. But, it is hard to drop close to 3K on something that a-traditional in looks and has no real “history” or reviews as a product.
Anyhow… I appreciate your input and would love to hear your opinion of it’s comfort utility if it would be broken down into armless chairs.
Thanks!
Also, in terms of your slippage issues… could you just add more velcro to the attachment surfaces of the cover and the base?
I think that the base with a back and cushion would be fine for a few hours here and there. Eventually you could consider potentially getting a few bases as ottomans to make it even more comfy and even provide some table space. And if you will be using these for events where something may get spilled on them, I again, think that they hold up really well. They are not particularly stylish, but are great as seating for watching TV. I wouldn’t put them in my formal living room, however. =)
As for the slippage, I guess you could add more velcro to the covers to help hold the cushions in place. To be honest, it hasn’t bothered me enough to make me do anything about it.
Gotcha – The main issue with comfort is that you think they are best when your feet are up (on an ottoman) versus simply using it as a standard chair… yes?
Thanks for all your input. We’re going to head to a lovesac store this weekend to check them out and hopefully end up picking one out.
Thanks!
For me personally, I need the leg support of an ottoman. It’s more comfortable. But my dad visited and sat in front of the TV all weekend with no ottoman and was fine. He even fell asleep sitting there.
After you have the chance to sit on the sactional, please let me know what you think! Good luck!!
Will do — thanks for all of the information. Your blog is on the place I was able to find a user “review” of the sactional. Thanks for taking the time to put up your review and answering questions! Very much appreciated.
Update – we went to the store… hung out for a while and ended up placing an order for a “movie lounger” configuration along with two movie sacs. I think this will fit the bill.
I thought the sactionals were extremely comfortable and we had fun picking out some funky fabrics as a neat finishing touch.
Thanks for all your insights… really helped make this process easier knowing that someone has had a good experience with the furniture while also having some high expectations for it.
Now… if I could only speed up the delay in delivery — 8-10 weeks! Ouch.
Excellent, Tim! We had company coming to visit so we opted for one of the stock fabrics (fortunately it fit our decor), but I would have LOVED to have had one of the funkier fabrics. Patience is a virtue, my friend. Please send me a photo when you get it in place. I’d love to see the finished product. And let me know if you love it!
Beth – We got the goods. We love it. I take back my comment about sactionals being not being the most “striking piece” to look at. You were right… it looks fantastic. Wicked comfortable.
I saw you also have a moviesac… question about those… how long did it take to truly expand to it’s full size? Ours have been out for about three days. I just tried putting a cover on and there was a lot of excess material (the insides don’t seem to have expanded fully?). When I sit on it, it really compacts down. From the pictures on the web… and the one I saw in the store… the movie sacs looked a lot more full and firm.
What was your experience?
- The now “Converted” lovesac fan!
So glad that you love the sactional! Despite what you’d think, it is a nice looking piece of furniture.
We actually have the SuperSac and I can tell you that it took me a good 2 hours to really break down the foam block. My hands kept cramping up, so I had to take little breaks. When I was done there were no “hunks” of foam left. Everything had been broken down. Then we turned it over many, many times before letting it sit for a couple of days to settle. When we first got it, we used it in the middle of the room and not against a wall. It did have a hard time firming into a “chair” shape with no support behind it. But it was still pretty firm when you sat on it. You didn’t “bottom out”. We’ve since moved it into a room where is sits in a corner against a wall and its been much easier to get it to hold a shape.
If you just unpacked it, I would give it a few days to expand. It’s definitely not immediate. And make sure that every little piece of foam is broken apart and that you flip it. The air is what helps it to expand, so even after its comfy, flip it from time-to-time just to give it a fluff.
Let me know if this doesn’t help and I’ll see what else helps it fluff up.
Long Live Lovesac!
So glad I found someone who actually owns a lovesac and wrote a review!
I went and checked these out last week at the store and the broken in ones seemed really comfy. I just worry that the foam in the cushions will lose their spring within a few months.. and the fact that the seams come apart that quickly is worrying as well..
Any news on how good/cruddy their support/replacement is?
Hi Tarrant – are you referring to the actual Sacs or the sactional? The sactional foam hasn’t lost its spring at all after a year. My husband and I were just discussing how well its held up. All things considered, the covers have held up too – through dogs digging at them, peeing on them, us spilling tea and beer on them, multiple washings. We don’t use the SuperSac as much, but it hasn’t worn badly at all. Our mastiff sleeps on it quite a bit, so I can say that the cover is pretty easy to clean.
We haven’t bothered to have the covers replaced, so we haven’t contacted customer service. Sorry I can’t comment on that.
We ARE buying another “saction” or two to expand the configuration that we already have.
Beth, they really should pay you or at least give you your expansion sactionals for free for putting up this personal blog!
You’ve been a great help for me to decide to pick up a sactional (think I’m going with a 6 seat configuration with 8 sides). It mostly helps to know it’s lasted a year without compressing (our really expensive leather couch and recliners only lasted 4 months before needing new cushioning) and we’ve got a very slobbery newfie and a bouvier that tend to lick the leather and make it crack and peel, so replaceable and washable microfiber covers are very welcome.
Beth, I am looking into a Sactional for our basement and have enjoyed reading your review. We are hoping to find something for our basement that could also work as a bed for guests occasionally. In your experience with the Sactional products, do you think you could make a comfortable full size bed for guests? I wonder if the issue with cushions slipping would make this difficult?
Thanks again for your review, it is very helpful.
Hi Kelli – Funny you should ask…my dogs were being unruly last night so I slept on the sactional to quiet them down. I tend to fall asleep on it anyway and I can tell you that I think its pretty comfortable as an overnight sleeper. As a bonus, a friend of ours spent Monday and Tuesday nights sleeping there as well and commented on how comfortable it was. We have the “Movie Lounger” configuration with 4 bases and 4 aides and it works great for extra sleep space for overnight guests. The only caveat that I found is that sometimes the base cushions move a little and you find yourself in the crevices in between. But, if you add a fitted sheet to help keep them in place, the sactional makes a comfy bed for guests.
Hi Beth,
Thank you so much for posting an honest review on your Lovesac! My husband is dying for one, and I’m all for it, though I’m wondering about comfort and support. The big thing I hate about sofas is ones that really sink in when you sit on them. I like sofas I can just get up from, you know? How is the support with yours?
Hi Jenn – I’ve found the sactional cushions to offer a lot of support. And a year later, they are just as firm as they were when we purchased them. I don’t like sinking into sofas either and so far that hasn’t been a problem with the sactional. Hope this helps!
I recently had my covers replaced under warranty by Lovesac. The customer service was great. Since a few of you had asked for follow-up on customer service, I blogged about it here – http://bit.ly/3NB8tO. Enjoy!
The most appealing thing to me about the Sactional is the ability to cycle through the pieces so no one piece gets extra-worn. We’re excited to pick up ours this weekend — we totally hit the jackpot at the Black Friday sale at the store in Milwaukee — and thank you for your excellent and thorough review!!
Hey Tiara – That’s awesome! We recently added a new base so the Sactional is U-shaped. My husband likes it but I’m not digging it as much. So, I think we’re going to add one more base to the middle and just make it into a giant couch with the ottomans attached. =) Let me know what you think of your Sactional and good luck!
We love it so far! Here’s a photo of our configuration: http://twitpic.com/ugqaa It’s still naked (waiting for our charcoal and lime covers to come in) but it’s fantastic. We’ve left our extra base loose for now to move to wherever we’re sitting, and it’s a little cramped with our little tree, but it’s fantastic. I was worried with how secure it would feel but it absolutely feels just like a regular sofa. You can’t even tell they’re separate pieces, even when you know they are!
I’m absolutely in love. I can’t WAIT until our microsuede slipcovers come in, but even naked the taupe isn’t bad. Our cats Pippin and Merry love it too, and it’s easy to get the cat hair off—BONUS!
Hey,
Thank you for posting your review on the sactional…I am really interested in getting one and to this point I haven’t been able to find any solid reviews online. I noticed your last blog was from December and was wondering if there was anything worth mentioning since then (issues/problems/praises). I am set with the task of selling my wife on it, also since you seem to know quite a bit about lovesac, is there a better/worse time to purchase one? Do they run yearly sales? I did find a promo code online for 10% off is that standard?
Thank you for your time
Josh
Hey Josh – no news is good news right? =) We still love the sactional. We are going to strip off all the covers in the next week or two for a good wash. Our dogs have been slobbering all over them so they need to be cleaned. We’ve had a few issues with the seams coming loose, but we contacted Lovesac and they replaced the covers under warranty. No biggie – they were very helpful.
We’ve added a couple of pieces to make it a little bigger. The cushions are still really comfortable. All-in-all, we’re super happy with the purchase.
In terms of sales and promotions, I would suggest that you become their fan on Facebook as they have a lot of “one-day-only” and “Facebook exclusive” promotions – http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000191615107. Same for Twitter – http://twitter.com/Lovesac. They run corporate sales as well as store sales all the time. I think they also have an e-newsletter that might be worth joining.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!
I’m glad to see some opinions about the sactionals. I may order one very soon. However, when I here that they can be very staticly charged, it makes we wonder about the comfort factor. I hate clinging to things. Does anyone have an answer to this? Is there a way to rid the static?
Hey Craig – yeah – I hate clinging to things too. I tend to be a staticky person in a staticky house…but I’ve never noticed the sactional as being particularly staticky. Not sure how to rid items of static (maybe rub it down with a dryer sheet?) But, since I am really sensitive to static, I’ve never found it to be an issue. Still love my sactional. Actually washed all the covers as part of spring cleaning and they washed up great and didn’t lose any color.
