Yesterday, like the rest of the world, I was glued to the TV and my laptop for most of the day watching the inaugural coverage of our 44nd president. It was a beautiful, albeit cold, event and I’m glad that I witnessed it from the warmth of my living room. There were a couple of really interesting points techbologically that I wanted to share…
- CNN.COM Live and Facebook offered a robust combination of a live video feed of the inauguration with a self-updating status window displaying your “friends” comments. The Facebook widget was a lot like Twitter (which kept crapping out on me) and was pretty slick.
- Twitter did a good job of handling the load for the most part. As always, it proved to be the most entertaining part of the coverage.
- But, by far, the most impressive part of the day was the seamless transition from the Bush White House website to the Obama White House website at exactly 12:01PM. I would love to have seen how this was accomplished. I’ve yet to launch a website without some kind of snag, so this would have been a great lesson to learn.
So the next time you have a campaign or website to launch, think about the seamless transitioning of the president’s website and remember – yes, you can.
