I recently found out about a great movement that I feel really encompasses making a small change to create a major ripple. Share Our Strength is a national movement working to end child hunger in America. I really like this campaign as a) child hunger is a huge problem in our country (bigger than you think) and I’m a huge advocate of helping people in my backyard and b) it’s easy. You don’t have to knock on doors. You don’t have to call your neighbors during dinner. There are three easy options that will help bring food to hungry kids in the U.S.
- Make a TEXT donation. Pick up your cell and text SHARE to 20222 and you’ll donate $5. How simple is that? You don’t even have to talk to anyone. =) Even better, AT&T will match the first $100,000 in text donations.
- Hold a food drive. If you want to be a little more involved, hold a food drive. Food drives can be as simple or complex as you want them to be. SOS provides some tips for planning your event to ensure success.
- Spread the word. Gee, that’s really easy, because if you are reading this blog you LIKE spreading the good word. Circulating the SOS message is as easy as blogging (like me), posting info to Twitter or Facebook or posting a banner on your website or blog.
Share Our Strength is not only a great cause, its a great example of how simple an effective campaign can be.
