We held our GoodDogz.org annual meeting on Saturday and the theme for 2009 is having fun. As some of you may know, having more fun and living life is one of my personal New Year’s resolutions and I’m hoping that I can apply it to everything that I do. We expect to have our work cut out for us this year, particularly with the unpredictable state of donations. So we made an agreement that all of our efforts will be equally balanced with fun.
Our meeting consisted of our longtime board, a few returning volunteers and a few new faces. It was interesting to see how much everyone needed a little fun in their lives. Here are a few ideas that were tossed around and I think that we’re going to try to implement them all.
- Minimum of 1 monthly meet-up – Meet-ups can be an impromptu happy hour, get together at the dog park, a get together piggybacking another event, etc. Our meet-ups will be totally informal, but we hope that this will not only be fun but also keep folks engaged between meetings and events.
- Resurrection of our quarterly social - in past years, we planned an event each quarter that was solely fun and social. These events were really fun and helped bring everyone together as a group. Past events included a wine tour, a Halloween ghost walk, a pub crawl and a house party. We’ve also talked about a kayaking trip in the spring. These events were cheap and we always had a fantastic time. The socials sort of died on the vine and I’m excited to bring them back to the forefront.
- Keep everyone in the loop – I am the worst about keeping my team in the loop. So from now on, if there is something fun happening or an event that we may attend, we’ll let everyone know.
We work hard and we play hard. And with all of the hard work that’s coming our way just to stay afloat, we believe that a tremendous amount of fun is in order as well.
Any suggestions for other ways to let down your hair at the end of the work week?
