Social Media Tools and Web Strategies for Non-Profits

I’m going off the beaten path today to talk about one of my favorite organizations/services for non-profits - TechSoup.org. TechSoup is an organization that, among many things, helps non-profits secure discounted or free software. And we’re not talking bottom of the barrel software. TechSoup works with the big guys - Microsoft, Symantec, Adobe, etc. to help your non-profit get the software that it needs without paying an arm and a leg. They have excellent resources and, in my opinion, do a great job reaching out to their members. Right about the time I forget about them, I get an email reminding me that they are there. They also send out print mailers from time-to-time cataloging the software that they have available. TechSoup.org is also a sponsor of the Nonprofit Commons (NPC) in SecondLife and do a fantastic job of raising interest and keeping everyone organized.

If you are a non-profit and are interested in TechSoup, complete their application. It may take some time to get it approved and they do require proof of 501(c)(3) determination. So, don’t worry if it takes longer than you’d think. They are crazy busy with many other groups requesting membership. Be patient - it’s worth it. Order the soup, you’ll love it!

Thanks for spreading the word about TechSoup and our work in Second Life with our Nonprofit Commons project. We’re also here to help with any tech-related questions or issues you want to discuss–stop by and post them in our nonprofit community online forums: http://www.techsoup.org/community.
